Where did life come from?

"Harold" at Pandas Thumb:

The current theory of evolution can inform, and would be improved by, good models of abiogenesis, but it does NOT need to contain a model of abiogenesis. Cellular life and viruses do evolve. If the first cells were magically poofed into existence, cellular life and viruses have still been evolving for several billion years. I’m not saying this to dispute the value that a good model of abiogenesis would provide.
